Working out and getting fit doesn’t have to be hard. Check out the health benefits you get every time you lace up your skates. Then come pay us a visit at Skateland. Let’s get fit together and have some fun at the same time.

Promotes weight loss. – Whenever you have exercise, you have weight loss, right? Right. Grab your skates and watch the pounds roll right off. According to Roller Skating International, roller skating helps encourage weight loss by burning calories and by toning muscles.

Improves endurance. – Even at a moderate pace, roller skating can improve and strengthen your cardiovascular health. Roller Skating International says the aerobic workout provided by roller skating equals that provided by running once your speed reaches 10 mph or more.

Strengthens your lower body. – Did you know….while roller skating, your thighs, hips, butt and calf muscles all work together to propel you forward? Building up your leg muscles and you didn’t even know it. Roller skating is also known to cause less stress on your joints than running.

These are just a few ways that roller skating can improve your health. So whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skater, you can guarantee to get a meaningful workout every time you lace up your skates.

Are you a teacher? Do you have a hard time getting your students to pay attention? Do you believe your students are kinetic learners? Book your next field trip at Skateland!

Show your kiddos the importance of roller skating and the health benefits from it this year. Did you know what roller skating is recognized by the American Heart Association as a top aerobic exercise. It’s also noted as being easier on the knees and joints than jogging or running.

Are you tired of teaching in the classroom? Well, bring teaching out of the classroom and onto the hardwood floor. At Skateland, we take pride in being a clean, safe and fun environment for people of all ages while still promoting health and wellness.

Studies have shown that small children only have attention spans of around 30 minutes. So, in order to get the most from being in school, this shows that children require breaks. A field trip to Skateland is the perfect brain break! Allow your kiddos to burn some energy while learning the importance of exercise.

Skating field trips also teach children that exercising doesn’t have to be the standard jogging, running or walking. Skating field trips show students that exercising can be fun. Take advantage of your planning fun yet useful field trips this year and give Skateland a call.

Keeping Your Kids Safe in Public

Children in public Attention Parents:

We take pride in being a clean, fun, safe environment for people of all ages, but not everyone has the same good intentions for your children. Check out these quick tips that will aid in keeping your children safe at Skateland.

Never leave young children unsupervised in play areas, or even rolling around the rink-not even for a few minutes-it just takes seconds for something to go wrong.

If you’re at a crowded session, it’s probably best to keep infants and babies in strollers. When leaving, don’t take for granted the power the holding your child’s hand. It only takes a moment, or one shiny item for toddlers to wander off.

As soon as your kiddo is old enough, teach them their full name, address, phone number and your full name so that if they’re ever in trouble, they can be helped.

Are your children familiar with the phrase “stranger danger?” It’s best to begin teaching your children personal safety rules at the age of two or three. This will help with teaching your child not to walk off with another other than you. This is important for keeping your child safe in a crowded place.

Following these steps will help with keeping your children safe while having fun at our facility and later in life.

Roller sports coming to the 2020 Olympics?

inline skating The 2016 Rio Olympics begin this week and this morning CNN reported the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced they will be adding five new sports to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but it saddens us to say that roller sports wasn’t one of them.

It’s 2016 and roller sports aren’t considered an to be Olympic sport. Crazy, right?!

According to the BBC, roller sports was one of seven sports competing for a spot in the 2020 Olympic Games, but according to inlineskating.about.com, “efforts by the roller sports world governing body, the Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS), to earn Olympic status for any of its disciplines were limited at the end of the 20th century.”

Although, FIRS’ attempts to get Olympic status became most active around 2000, when inline speed skating was promoted as the most suitable roller sport for the Olympics, roller sports have still yet to be added to the list of competing sports.

The FIRS lobbied for roller sports to be included in the 2020 Olympics, but according to  Insidethegames,  they refused to confirm which disciplines they put forward for inclusion.

“We presented a complete project that in five years will lead roller sports to be an even more important sport in Japan and we are sure we can create a consistent legacy both before and after the games,” said FIRS president Sabatino Aracu.

CNN reported that the sports selected to be added to the 2020 Olympic games are skateboarding, surfing, karate, sports climbing and baseball/softball.

So to all our fellow skaters, as for now, all we can do is keep skating and show the world roller skating SHOULD be an Olympic sport.
