Extending Your Rollerskate’s Lifespan

skatesSo you just bought your new pair of roller skates from our Pro Shop. Now what do you do? Lace them up and get ready to skate of course, but before you take off, take a look at these easy tips we’ve put together to help you extend the lifespan of your new skates.

With the exception of some roller skates, most roller skate trucks should be tightly fitted to the boot. Therefore, skaters should routinely check their roller skate trucks to make sure they are tight and secure.

Many roller skates come with adjustable toe-stops so be sure to set your toe stop is set to the position that works best for you. You may have to experiment with a few adjustments until you determine the right toe-stop position.

Skaters also should occasionally check their skate wheels to make sure they are spinning properly and haven’t become excessively worn. If the wheels are not spinning freely you should check for damage, or buildup from dirt or other debris.

Most roller skate bearings are enclosed and considered maintenance free, however, it is still good to make sure the bearings on your roller skates stay dry and clean. It is good to wipe the roller skate bearings from time to time.

With these tips, you’re sure to be making the most of your roller skates and certainly making the most of their lifespan.
